Everyone has dreams about how to make their lives better
and easier.
Some parents look forward to the day when their children
will grow up, create a life of their own, and move out. For
parents of children with autism and related disabilities,
this dream is not an assumed reality.
There can be discouraging obstacles for families
discrimination, inadequate programs and waiting lists.
Yet, there is hope.
By developing a plan focusing on a vision, opportunities,
and capacities, people with autism and their families can
reach their goals. This can be a difficult, yet rewarding
process.
The Rowlands wanted help with developing a plan for their
25 year old daughter Ann who has autism. They had the dream
for Ann to be more independent and live outside of their
home, so they turned to CARD-USF for assistance.
