Autism and Co-Existing Mental Health Disorders (May 4th, 2007)

Autism is a complex neurological disorder that impacts 1 in 150 children today. It has gained much attention in the media recently. Awareness of early warning signs, early interventions based on evidence based research, and comprehensive educational strategies in school and home are keys to improved outcomes. Autism spectrum disorders can also occur with mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, ADHD and Bipolar disorder. This conference will help the audience to understand the nature of these co-existing conditions and how they present in an individual with an autism spectrum disorder. This conference will assist professionals determine how to distinguish characteristics that are autism related versus those associated with a co-existing mental health disorders and provide information on appropriate treatment options.
