These modules are intended to provide practical, neurodiversity-affirming strategies and high-quality resources to help keep children and individuals safer.

For Families

Wandering and Elopement for Parents: Understanding and Supporting Wandering and Elopement Safely

The course will guide you through:

  • How to recognize patterns and early warning signs
  • What a supportive safety plan can look like
  • How to create routines that reduce the urge to wander
  • Simple environmental supports that increase safety while skills are still developing

Wandering and Elopement for RBTs: Supporting Safety and Predictable Participation

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common patterns and recognize early warning signs and high-risk situations associated with elopement
  • Describe core safety programs, including Stop, Walk With Me, Ask First, Waiting, and Requesting Breaks
  • Describe shaping procedures by adjusting distance, duration, prompting, and distraction levels during skill development
  • Collect and report relevant information about elopement and precursor behaviors to the supervising BCBA
